What Is Shoulder Impingement Syndrome / Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy?

Shoulder Impingement Syndrome and Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy are two closely related conditions that cause pain and restricted movement in the shoulder. They often develop when the tendons of the rotator cuff — a group of muscles and tendons that stabilize the shoulder joint — become irritated, inflamed, or compressed as they pass through the shoulder joint space.

This can result in pain during lifting, reaching overhead, or sleeping on the affected side. In many cases, both impingement and tendinopathy occur together.

At Versano Clinics, we provide targeted, hands-on care to address the root causes of shoulder pain. Whether the issue stems from overuse, poor posture, or a sports injury, our experienced clinicians tailor your treatment to reduce pain, improve strength, and restore shoulder mobility.

Symptoms:

  • Pain when lifting the arm, especially overhead or behind the back

  • Sharp or pinching sensation at the top or front of the shoulder

  • Pain when lying on the affected shoulder, especially at night

  • Weakness in the arm or shoulder, particularly during overhead activity

  • Limited range of motion or stiffness
